May, Mandala Open New Routes Destination Australia

Low-cost airlines or low cost carriers (LCC), PT Mandala Airlines, plans to open new routes from Jakarta to Australia in May-June 2013. "We're trying to open a route from Jakarta to Australia by plane itself," said Commercial Director Mandala Airlines, Brata Rafly, at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Thursday, March 14, 2013.




Addition route overseas destination Australia, said Brata, is one of the Mandala's commitment to be a LCC airline that can serve the Asia Pacific routes. Besides Australia, they plan to open routes of Asia, such as Hong Kong.

Brata Mandala add the licenses are opening a new route to the aviation authorities of Indonesia and Australia. However, the granting of local ototitas have to wait until there is an empty slot for the addition of their flight.

"It is also difficult to ask for a transit at Changi Airport, Singapore, for their air traffic has been very solid," said Brata. In addition, the Soekarno-Hatta already full so there should be infrastructure improvements before Mandala can open routes to new foreign.

Currently, Mandala passengers traveling to Australia by plane Tiger Airways. According Brata, both airlines have a codeshare partnership that could Mandala passengers to Australia with an airline ticket. Mandala passengers will then be transferred to the aircraft Tiger Airways in Singapore and fly straight to Australia without the need to buy tickets anymore.

For this year, Mandala plans to add 10 new routes. Some of the new route is Jakarta-Bangkok, Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta-Medan, Jakarta-Padang and Jakarta-Surabaya. In addition to the route from Jakarta, Mandala also will serve the route Surabaya-Kuala Lumpur-Singapore and Surabaya and Denpasar, Surabaya.
